Newly Engaged?

Did Valentine’s Day bring you some new bling on your left hand? Congratulations and best wishes! Now, the real work begins.

The engagement can sometimes be the most difficult period a couple goes through before marriage, because this is the time when you prepare not just for the wedding itself, but the reality of married life.

How can you make it through your engagement and to the altar? Here are a few tips to help you along your journey:

  1. Prioritize – It is best that you establish your priorities first, such as buying a home or getting a new vehicle or saving enough funds for long-term investments. Also consider if you intend to get married a few years after the engagement, or sooner rather than later. Get on the same team and don’t allow outside influence in your decision as a couple.
  1. Don’t try changing each other – It’s understandable that you want everything to be perfect by the time the wedding day arrives, and you’d want this period to be the time where you can bring out the best in each other. But what that also means, is that you want your partner to change.

You don’t  need to do that; just be yourselves and enjoy preparing for your upcoming wedding. You picked your partner  because of what you are and what you have, not what you want each other to be.

  1. Have fun with each other – While you are both busy preparing for the big day, it is also important that you set time to have fun and enjoy each other. The stress and tension of planning a wedding  can get the best of you. Before that happens, make sure to take the time for a date night, a movie, or a bike ride together.
